When to Keep Your Child Home (D11)

To keep our classrooms healthy and learning-focused, we follow Colorado Springs School District 11 and Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) guidance on illness. Please keep students home—and notify the school—if they have any of the following:

  • Fever (100.4°F/38°C or higher) — may return when fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine and symptoms are improving. Colorado Public Health+1
  • Vomiting or diarrhea — stay home until 24 hours after the last episode and the student is able to participate in normal activities. Colorado Public Health
  • Persistent cough, sore throat, or difficulty breathing that limits participation in class. Follow return guidance when symptoms improve and no fever is present. Colorado Public Health
  • Eye discharge (possible conjunctivitis), rash with fever, or other symptoms suggestive of a contagious illness—consult a healthcare provider before returning. Colorado Public Health
  • Positive test for a communicable disease (e.g., COVID-19, influenza): follow current CDPHE/D11 exclusion and return-to-school instructions. Colorado Public Health+1

For full details, see D11’s Infectious Disease Guidelines – “How Sick Is Too Sick?” and CDPHE’s school & child care illness guidance. d11.org+1

Medications at School

If a student needs medication during the school day, D11 requires the appropriate medication forms and original labeled containers. Coordinate with our school health office before sending any medicine to school. Cloudinary+1
